73,000 Wordpress Blogs Shutdown By U.S. Authorities.....Are We Next? (UPDATEX2!)

by: Jack's Smirking Revenge

Fri Jul 16, 2010 at 17:05:40 PM EDT

After the U.S. Government took action against several sites connected to movie streaming recently, nerves are jangling over the possibility that this is just the beginning of a wider crackdown. Now it appears that a free blogging platform has been taken down by its hosting provider on orders from the U.S. authorities on grounds of "a history of abuse". More than 73,000 blogs are out of action as a result.

Jack's Smirking Revenge :: 73,000 Wordpress Blogs Shutdown By U.S. Authorities.....Are We Next? (UPDATEX2!)
Oh...they gone done did it now.

No explanation given to the hosts, not even a canned one of "we're sorry for the inconvenience".

Just nothing, plug pulled, fuck you, we're the government.

(Update 1)

We're thinking these two things have something to do with the newly launched assault:

(Update 2)

BurstNet is claiming they're sworn to secrecy and that the data from the downed sites cannot be retrieved.

Jack... (5.00 / 2)
the halcyon days are coming to a close.

I expect our future internet regs to be a less sophisticated version of China's, unless we actually copy them...lol.

Australia, land of legendary pervs, is already doin it.

I posted this story (6.00 / 1)
on RoA and Daily Kos. DK-ers did not appear to think this story of much interest. I was told that only stupid people allow others to host their blogs. Missing the real story as usual.

Glad to see you picked up on it (though it would be hard to imagine your not recognizing the significance).

I get the impression from reading that dialog between BurstNet and the Blogetery guy that the govt not only forced BurstNet to take down the blog, but possibly seized the whole thing, which would mean they've got everybody's info, to the extent available on their blogs?

I look at this, and I think; "FISA, you fools. Remember FISA? Remember how Obama voted against making the telecoms accountable for illegal spying, and everybody freaked out?"

Second verse, same as the first.

it's a story definitely worth (0.00 / 0)
keeping track of.

I stopped worrying about being banned there some time ago. Life has been much more pleasant since then.

They banned Pluto this week, btw. One of my very favorite people there. How boring.

Jack you're SO fucking right (5.50 / 2)
Not just Kos, but with sooo many liberal Obama voters. Those fuckers make me sick. I know, I know, I shouldn't be surprised.

Never trust a "liberal" in a messenger bag. They're really just Red Staters who prefer Starbucks and Cat Power to NASCAR and David Duke spoken-word poetry.

my impression (4.00 / 1)
circa 2006-2008, was the dude just plain hypnotized people. I virtually never watch TV, so I didn't get hit with it. But I kind of watched it happen from the sidelines. It was disturbing. I'd bring up his voting record, and they'd say they didn't care. That's not a good enough answer.

We have a G.O.P. defector, (0.00 / 0)
who left the party disgusted with the "kind of people" that ran their party and couldn't believe the only ones asking them to run for office (because they're not 90yrs old) were actually Democrats.  This was in Pennsylvania for the conversion brought on by "The Specter" that haunted PA.

This person then realized there really wasn't any difference and they could no longer overlook the fact that they're both paid by the same campaign contributors.

So they came to us, willing to do whatever it took to make a party worth being in.

There's some topics that we kinda get "uppidy" about but we all realize that we chose to be in this party knowing full well that it meant the government is going to possibly try and kill us all at some point.

Ah well, seems to happen to all the "greats" in this country... Hell!  The world!

But for now, a moment of silence, for the ones we lost....and people we made pay at the door before they got to see this show:

Yeah, bet it didn't burn ya as much as the money ya lost trying to catch us!

sounds like the war on drugs (0.00 / 0)
which also costs a lot more money than it does anybody any good. Thus one must address who is actually getting the money.

In the case of the war on drugs, a big part of it is the prison industry.

Don't assume they'll kill you. Nobody makes any money when they kill you.
