Business As Usual in Port-au-Prince

Port-au-Prince
A suspected thief is beaten and dragged naked through the streets in Port-au-Prince.

From the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy...

"Each ethno-national community is valuable in and of itself since it is only within the natural encompassing framework of various cultural traditions that important meanings and values are produced and transmitted. The members of such communities share a special cultural proximity to each other. By speaking the same language and sharing customs and traditions, the members of these communities are typically closer to one another in various ways than they are to those who don't share the culture. The community thereby becomes a network of morally connected agents, i.e., a moral community, with special, very strong ties of obligation. A prominent obligation of each individual concerns the underlying traits of the ethnic community, above all language and customs: they ought to be cherished, protected, preserved and reinforced. The general assumption that moral obligations increase with cultural proximity is often criticized as problematic. Moreover, even if we grant this general assumption in theory, it breaks down in practice. Nationalist activism is most often turned against close (and substantially similar) neighbors rather than against distant strangers, so that in many important contexts the appeal to proximity will not work. It might however retain its potential force against culturally distant groups."

The Photo is not an accurate depiction of "life in Haiti" (5.50 / 2)
This photo is a confirmation that the people of Haiti are savages.

Now, what is the actual context of the photo. Who produced it, when was it taken and why is this kind of garbage being used to convince the ever guillible American people that the rest of the world is made up of poor people and poor people are all savages because we all know that people who have money are civilized and intelligent.

You know like the American people.

This is insane. The idea that people would beat a "thief"....is absurd. What did this person do?
A photo is worth a thousand words, but this photo is worth a thousand lies.

I find it disgusting that you would promote this kind of prejudice.

I don't know what's going on in the photo and neither do you...other than the fact it's being presented by the BBC.

All we are hearing about is how Haiti is about to erupt. And what does that do?

It confirms and reinforces the view that Haitian people cannot be aided because they are too dangerous to help. And what does that do?

It reinforces the military view which shares this view among the so called "helpers" and aid organizations who are allegedly there to help Haitians.

Most of the heirarchy of these aid organizations from the United States are entirely political. They are the new face of the CIA. They are contracted by the CIA to do dirty business with the face of an aid organization.

You are promoting their view of Haiti. Chavez has accurately noted that the U.S. has sent 10K troops to Haiti and they are nowhere to be found in the streets. It's more occupation.

Please explain why you published this photo without context...

Philosophy is something that people who are lost, cling to. It's Empty (0.00 / 0)
My God, I just tried to read the drivel under the photo, I didn't see it before. Philosophy...jeez what a load of shit...using big words to state the obvious...I guess this is something that attempts to try to elegantly say something about Blacks are more likely to kill blacks or some such bullshit.

Here's my response:

"Cultural assimilation of value(s) is most often determined to be a variation of context which precedes unmonitored  assumptions of concomitant moral permutation and the inevitablitly of digression as a form of regressive dialogue."

And you can fuckin' quote me on that!

Your photo is a promotion of the idea that Hatians should not be helped and that they are savage animals ....you really need to examine yourself over this.

Then....after examining your attitudes...which is examining....not what you think...but sensations...feelings...that may have no words attached to them....start doing things you wouldn't ordinarily do..behave differently....if you travel...go to foreign places that you have been told were dangerous.....and experience it....for yourself ...find out....if you don't travel....meet foreign people who the world, the press, what everybody implies are dangerous and try to get know them...you can pretend to be an interviewer...you can actually be an interviewer and write about it.

Don't try this with in America or with Americans...just foreigners.

It's a way of tricking yourself into learning. We have to trick ourselves to learn sometimes.
